Styled Shoots Across America at The Ivy Rose Barn
Fresh off a wedding day in Frederick and running on just 4–5 hours of sleep, I made the drive to Roanoke, Virginia, for Styled Shoots Across America (SSAA) at The Ivy Rose Barn. While I was exhausted, the moment I pulled through the black gates and saw the wide-open fields with the all-white barn tucked into the greenery, my excitement came rushing back.
Roanoke is already a city full of personal memories for me—from discovering Blue Cow Ice Cream while working as a pharmacist to getting engaged on top of McAfee Knob. Coming back here, but this time to photograph one of Virginia’s dream wedding venues, felt like coming full circle.
The Ivy Rose Barn Wedding Venue in Roanoke, Virginia
If you’re searching for a Roanoke wedding venue that’s modern, elegant, and full of natural light, The Ivy Rose Barn deserves a spot on your list. Its timeless white exterior, expansive fields, and high-ceiling barn space make it versatile for weddings of all styles.
Styled Shoots Across America transformed the space into four unique styled shoots, each offering a different creative vision for couples to imagine their dream day.
Tuscan-Inspired Wedding Design
The first setup instantly transported me to the Italian countryside. It was as if you could feel the warmth of the Tuscan sun right there in Virginia. The color palette was a mix of soft peach, warm terracotta, muted sage, and deep green, all grounded by natural textures. Tables were tomatoes still on the vine and rustic greenery layered between roses and delicate blooms.
The combination of florals and produce created an organic, abundant feeling—as if the table was set in a family vineyard in Italy, waiting for guests to gather for a long evening meal. Clay pots and textured linens added to the old-world charm, giving it an elevated farm-to-table look. And then there were the cakes—two wedding cakes, each with its own personality yet perfectly complementing the theme.
What I loved most about this design was how it blended effortless elegance with intimacy. It didn’t feel staged or overly perfect—it felt inviting, like you could pull up a chair, pour a glass of wine, and join in. This is the kind of wedding design that truly reflects the Italian philosophy of celebration—food, family, and love intertwined.
Romantic Barn Wedding with Garden-Inspired Florals
Inside The Ivy Rose Barn, the soaring white walls and natural light created a canvas for a garden-inspired wedding design. Pink dahlias, soft blue accents, and florals framing the grand chimney set the stage for a romantic ceremony. I could picture a couple walking through the double doors, seeing their partner waiting by the fireplace, ready to say forever.
Moody and Unique Wedding Inspiration
The third design was unlike anything I’ve ever photographed before—bold, artistic, and unapologetically unique. Instead of leaning into traditional bright palettes, this shoot embraced depth and richness with tones of deep green, velvety purple, inky black, and burgundy. The entire space exuded a mysterious elegance, the kind of aesthetic that makes you pause and take in every detail.
The grand staircase was a highlight, styled with cascading florals that turned it into a show-stopping backdrop. It was easy to imagine a bride making her entrance here, every step framed with romance and grandeur.
The tablescape was one of the most creative I’ve ever seen. Styled with an unconventional mix of seasonal produce—eggplants, zucchinis, beans, and red onions—it blurred the line between fine art and farm-to-table styling. Among the vegetables, roses in deep plum and garnet hues softened the scene, weaving romance into the darker tones. Each guest’s seat was marked not with a traditional name card, but with a mini charcuterie box—a personalized gift that doubled as a place setting. It was luxurious, thoughtful, and refreshingly different.
Towering over the reception setup was a five-tiered cake, decorated in moody tones that echoed the tablescape. Its size and artistry made it feel like a centerpiece all on its own—decadent, dramatic, and perfectly fitting for this design.
This shoot reminded me that weddings don’t always have to be light and airy to feel romantic. Sometimes, love can be celebrated through drama, contrast, and bold artistry—a design that feels as daring as it does timeless.
My favorite of all—the Crimson-Themed Greenhouse.
Crimson was originally my own wedding color palette, so walking into this space felt personal and inspiring. Dangling florals, feminine menu designs, and a live floral vase installation transformed the reception into something magical. This design was bold, romantic, and unforgettable—proof that color can truly set the tone for a wedding.
